Thank you for visiting the Foundation’s website. We are pleased to provide information regarding the Foundation’s present and planned activities.

The Baromedical Research Foundation was formed in 1988, as a not for profit tax-exempt organization. The Foundation's mission is the scientific advancement of hyperbaric oxygen therapy. A basic science laboratory, located within the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Department of Surgery Research Facility, provided a platform for the Foundation's research efforts during its first decade.

Beginning in 1999, the Foundation's interest was refocused on randomized and controlled clinical study. By the year 2000, a randomized, controlled, double-blinded clinical trial, with patient cross-over, had been developed and implemented. The trial is designed to investigate, more fully, the role of hyperbaric oxygen therapy in the treatment of late radiation tissue injury. It is termed HORTIS (Hyperbaric Oxygen Radiation Tissue Injury Study). Additional clinical trials are under various stages of development.
