Diabetic Wound Study
This study is presently under development. Its goal is to evaluate the efficacy of hyperbaric oxygenation in the management of diabetic foot wounds. Specifically, the study will address Wagner Grade 2 (pdf, 20KB) ulcerations.
In 2003, the United States Medicare program (the Government’s insurance coverage for the elderly and the disabled) approved hyperbaric oxygen therapy in the treatment of Wagner Grade 3 ulcerations. Lesions that have progressed to this point are more of a risk / threat for amputation if healing cannot be accomplished.
This study intends to determine whether or not hyperbaric oxygen therapy is likewise effective (clinically and financially) in Grade 2 ulcerations. Primary and Secondary outcome measures include time to healing, amputation rates, additional surgical requirements, quality of life and resulting complications.
