Inclusion on Protocol Registration System

In September 2004, the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) advised all ongoing, as well as future clinical trials, to be registered on www.clinicaltrials.gov .

The ICMJE noted that "...honest reporting of clinical trials begins with revealing the existence of all clinical studies, even those that reflect unfavorably on a research sponsor's product."

In order to eradicate selective reporting of clinical studies, existing protocols are expected to register by September 2005. New clinical trials have to fulfill this requirement immediately to avoid exclusion from publishing their results in major scientific journals.

Project HORTIS has been accordingly registered with the Protocol Registration System (PRS), a Web-based tool developed for submitting information to ClinicalTrials.gov.
